The Gulf Mark (G Mark)
G Mark is a mandatory requirement for Low Voltage Electrical products and children’s
toys being exported to the Gulf Coordinating Council (GCC) Countries under the Gulf
Standardization Organization (GSO), as defined within the Low Voltage Technical
Regulation, BD142004-01.
Affixing of the G Mark on products means that natural or legal entity that undertakes
the action of affixing or assumes the responsibility of marking affixing assured that
the concerned product is compliant with the whole requirements of the relevant
regulations that apply to the product.
The countries included in the scheme are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
The purpose of the G Mark:
- Facilitating the movement of low voltage equipment and devices to the GCC member countries by eliminating technical barriers and unifying customs requirements.
- Establishing a common market scheme that guarantees quality and safety for consumers.
- Establishing a single market, allowing the free movement of these products in the member countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC).
- Identifying safe products that comply with the technical regulations with the G Mark printed on the product.
Product Scope:
- List 1 Regulated Products: Self-declaration conformity assessment:
Regarding manufacturing procedures and processes, manufacturers of List 1 products
must have a system in place—typically a factory quality control system—to ensure
products are being manufactured and assembled in a controlled manner which
includes production line testing to confirm the product quality and integrity to
maintain conformity within the design intent.
- List 2 regulated products: Requiring Notified Body (NB) involvement
Manufacturers must choose a Notified Body (NB) entity, to examine the technical design
of a product and verify that the technical design of the product meets the requirements
of the applicable Gulf Technical Regulations and for the issuance of an evaluation report
with a Gulf Type Examination certificate.
The Notified Body must also ensure the manufacturing has a production-quality system
implemented to confirm that the product is being manufactured in accordance with
the technical specifications.
