Saudi Standards showcases its most prominent achievements during 2020

The Saudi Organization for Standardization, Metrology, and Quality affirmed that, during the past year 2020 AD, various achievements were fulfilled in the field of developing specifications, conformity, metrology, and enhancing product safety, to be an internationally reliable entity that enables the quality of life and the competitiveness of the national economy.

The Saudi standards indicated that the Kingdom’s participation in international technical committees increased by 6% compared to the year 2019 AD, as the Kingdom became a participant in 291 international technical committees.

The members of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Standards and Metrology for Islamic countries agreed to extend the Kingdom’s presidency of the Institute’s Board of Directors, while the Commission organized the International Standards Summit held on the sidelines of the Kingdom’s presidency of the G20 in Riyadh, with the participation of 2822 experts and specialists from 83 countries around the world.

 

During the Corona pandemic, the Authority launched 6 specific initiatives that help the private sector overcome the challenges resulting from the Corona pandemic, for which about 66,776 enterprises benefited, with a total amount of (19,978,800) riyals.

 

These initiatives were represented in: Extending the validity of all certificates of conformity registered in The Saber electronic platform that expires in March, April, or May 2020 for a period of three months from the date of the expiration of the certificate, accepting commodity test reports issued by the accredited laboratories in the country of export to three previous years without the need for new tests, and reducing the costs of the consignment certificate of conformity by a rate 30% to become (350) riyals instead of (500) riyals, and postponing visits to production lines for products that this condition is imposed upon before obtaining conformity certificates, issuing conformity certificates without this condition, implementing remote auditing for products that are subject to the quality mark, and providing a number of specifications Free Saudi Standard for interested parties.

 

During the past year, the Saudi standards issued and updated (10) new and modified art paintings, 78 workshops and a lecture were held to introduce and raise awareness of the national quality infrastructure system, 44 technical consultations, 7 introductory workshops, and 6 working papers on quality systems were provided to a number of government and private agencies.
