The Saudi Standards and Weqaya signed a memorandum of understanding to control unsafe products

The Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Weqaya), to coordinate efforts regarding monitoring and warning about products that cause harm to the health and safety of the consumer.  The memorandum was signed by the Deputy Governor for Standards and Metrology, Mr. Tames bin Ali Al Hammadi, representing  Saudi Standards, and, Executive General Director, Dr. Abdullah bin Rashid Al Quwaisani, representing Weqaya.

 

The memorandum aims to maintain a framework to enhance cooperation between the two parties regarding monitoring and early warning of products that cause harm to the health and safety of consumers and to coordinate facilitating the rapid exchange of information about the risks of unsafe products and the associated incidents,  in order to control Unsafe products in the Saudi market, based on the responsibility of the Saudi Standards and the Weqaya Center and their role in maintaining the health and safety of people in the Kingdom.

 

The memorandum also aims to coordinate the efforts of the two parties and activate their contributions to achieving the goals of Vision 2030 through the technical linking between the Monitoring and Early Warning Center for Unsafe Products in the Saudi Standards  (Rasid) with the Weqaya Center Injury Monitoring System.

 

Rasid center is one of the Saudi Standards main branches, of the product safety program that aims to enhance consumer safety and raise the level of confidence in the Saudi market. The center is concerned with developing an integrative work system between the relevant national government agencies to monitor unsafe products that fall within The scope of work of the Saudi Standards (non-food, medicinal, and medical), in addition to spreading awareness among consumers of the danger of these products, early warning about them and following up on what is issued by similar centers internationally, to preserve the nation’s Sources and capabilities, maintain the health and safety of consumers and improve the quality of life.
