The Saudi Standards Metrology and Quality Organization showcased its experience in the standardization field at a joint international meeting held by the International Standardization Organization (ISO) for the African and Arab countries and the Pacific region. SASO highlighted the most prominent participation in the field of national technical committees corresponding to the international committees and the process of preparing, and developing Saudi national standards, this came after the ISO ranking of Saudi standards as one of the best African and Arab organizations in this field.
This international gathering comes within the participation of Saudi standards in the Regional Participation Policy Initiative (REP) of the ISO, which was approved by the ISO Council in September 2020, which aims to improve the services provided to the organization’s member bodies within the regional and sub-regional framework and contribute to Supporting the implementation of the ISO strategy, in addition to enhancing communication, cooperation, and partnerships among members of the different regions. The initiative also contributes to maintaining the capacities of members, improving information exchange, raising awareness of ISO programs in the region, encouraging regional commitment to the international standards, providing training and technical support.
During the meeting, the Saudi standards clarified its commitment to active international participation based on its strategic vision aiming to strengthening its leadership at the regional and global scope in the field of various standardization activities, referring to its experience in participating in international technical committees through representatives of the governmental, private and academic sectors to
ensure the effective representation of all relevant parties in Those committees, and the representation of national interests in an accurate and integrated manner.
Saudi Standards highlighted its participation in 293 international technical committees of the ISO, focusing on the keenness to represent the Kingdom externally by attracting competencies from the relevant authorities in accordance with the Kingdom’s leadership role, Explaining the mechanisms and steps for forming technical committees and work teams, in addition to the technical teams concerned with preparing and studying Saudi standard projects, and their compliance with global requirements, the Authority’s strategy and the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The meeting included wide participation of 250 representatives and heads of standardization bodies from the African, Arab region, and Pacific regions, in addition to the central secretariat of the ISO. The meeting also showcased the Japanese experience and the role of standards in empowering industry and enhancing the capabilities of the Japanese economy.
